Lonar-world's second largest impact crater & forgotten ancient temples

Route-150 km from aurangabad.

Aurangabad ->Sultanapur(by bus)
Sultanapur-> Lonar (Local transport[usually jeeps run ]
From Lonar bus stand-> ask for crater! its 1.5km by walk..

CAUTION:The bottom of the crater is 200m down..lil hike down..this path is very deserted ...u will barely see people...be careful..

This is bit of challenge to reach this place...within one day to go and come back is hard...u barely have place to stay overnight..so plan careful..i started well..things went smooth..

I lost when i reached Lonar station!..i was imagining jeep wld stop at crater itself..surpising found myself in a small town..with lil hindi i cldnt convey ...i should in signs!!!..h.hahah..one of my funniest moments in my life..imagine signing a meteorite..hahah...
luckily he understood..shouted "CATER..CATER"...
"Yeah!!!..goodness god..thats the place "i said..
...he told me the direction..took a auto to that..

..its a different feeling..to see it..like a small hills surrounding a lake...down the way was exciting..no path to go down..found some way..i reached the place..i had my food..utappam!.had it had..one different kind of lunch i had..then spent time in the temples..no one around..and started wrote "RETURN" in sand and took pic..it was return..from aurangabad..i had presented my first technical paper..visited some beautiful places..and back...

Direction :

From Bangalore : Book bus or train to palani(tamil nadu) from there take a cab..thirumurthi falls is 60kms from there..cab might cost you rs.800

From chennai:Reach coimbatore..this place is some 150kms from there or tirupur..

Beautiful temple:one of the rarest temples with siva,vishnu and brahma in one single temple.Most beautiful thing is when you go around the temple,other half ur legs will be covered by water knee height by a stream running..:))

Our trip[we went for srini's marriage in palani..from there we went to this place] : We swam in this dam water...we thought we will go to the falls directly but stopped midway..and had a good time in the water...its a sucha beautiful view...so peaceful

lil stream inside lil cave: We climbed some 30 feet further up..u will find siva lingams..just below that you will find this place...and one has to get into this small cave like thing..and find this wonderful stream of water gushing out:)...wonderful...in the first nobody got down..it was like rock trench filled with water leading to this small cave..i thought it wld be risky to step down as feet might get caught in between rock..i was surpised to feel sand in the bottom and comfortable throat height water level leading to this small cave...it was good experience to have explored this place..last time we explored a small stream below this and thought it was same one until we knew both were different..we didnt bathe in the main thirumurthi falls...

BEWARE : One of the main thing,even though everythin might look easy and non risky..always look out for FLASH FLOODs in thirumurthi falls it had killed lotsa ppl..generally tribes or someone wld be there in the top of the hill to warn..but be aware of this fact..

Beautiful day - March 15,2008

JOURNEY:

"Just decided in a few minutes that we go to sivanasumadram for my third time..this time was with my close friend prasanna,the superman...we decided to go for drive on this day...so we meet at a common point and started with journey with water melon juice ahh!...
...i went last time by kanakapura road this time we took mysore road..goodness me!the road that connects these roads are real beauty!..we touched 100 kmph in my CBZ..flying hooray :)....slowed down to 60-80's in mysore road...

REACHING THE FALLS:

"We reached the falls which is the nearer one ..and the pics i have shown here..not of this trip...we decided to have a quick glance of the falls and then planned our decent on the other side...we wasted no time just left ...on the way we observed my bike drinkin petrol too much...and add to that!..i had rs.20 and he rs.60..wonderful..with no ATMs nearby :)..we thought we cld manage somehow ..other side of the falls was 6km from there..so we proceeded ...we didnt knw the place..spoke somethin to gettin goin..

PATH :
on the way we had some awesome views!..water running and something like a path built to across that ..tempted to swim but decided to hold on

ANCIENT BRIDGE:
Beautiful ancient bridge with pillar over the water flow..you will love that view !

DECENT AND THE CLIFFS:

"No matter what i am gonna swim in the water..and see the falls touch the ground..we started to walk down...thorns cutting through our skins..my ever faithful jean protected my legs..and my Reebok shoes which was my father gifts was really helping me out...
..then came the real stuff..cliff..path was difficult ...one slip its fatal..there was tree..just to support from sliding..through which we cld get down..this point i didnt wanted prasanna to risk..asked him to take another path..becos the way i came was completely too risky..we did manage to walk across the cliff and then a lil steep decent ..holding to roots of trees we got..he was looking out for snakes ..mind u no single soul to save us if something hapend..we took that risk..by this time prasanna hands were bleeding..thru the rocks we got down..we never gave up and will to reach and feel the beauty really propelled us...

Goddess of beauty!!!!!!!:

Just awesome..nearly four falls..flowing down ..and creating the huge swimming pool of water..only we both were were...whole nature was ours!...we risked to reach there and it was worth ..every minute...after 45 min of descent..we got into water...my goodness..she was beauty!!!..flowing ...just sat there to breathe in..all her beauty...i was feeling..and breathing life!! :)..

THE SWIM ACROSS:

..there was rock nearly 30 feet from us...sudden thought..final hurdle..lets swim to that rock!! :)...we discussed whether crocodile wld be present or not...what the hell..i started to swim..water was bit lighter side compared to thirumurthi dam water,where we swam couplea weeks before...its a pleasure swimming..prasanna was encouragin me..i made it!!! :)..rock..and bit more closer to her..he started to swim too..and reached...

..i just lay on the rock...breathin all the life and beauty... intoxicated with life and beauty..just like our forefathers we just sat looking at this...

FINAL CLIMAX(is it!):

..we were sitting..slowly clouds gathered..lil by lil started to rain..oh my cell phone and bag everything on the other rock..and thinking the climb up!..we had to move fast...swam back and picked all our dress...put on my jean..started to climb up...rain started heavy now...only way up is to climb up where the stream of water comes down!ahh ..challenging and physically demanding..we slowly made our way..one point was difficult..imagine a cliff below u..rock on ur side..only way is to slide through the rock sitting..becos walking thru it was risky considerin the soil was slipping and more than that..rocks were fallin apart...through the water stream..real dream..rain..climbin..ahh!..finally we made it to the top..

THE RETURN :

..we started our bike and started..it was getting dark..then i realised my head light not workin!:)...i knew it wld be hard..driving without headlight in the high way..with ppl crossing..we managed it some how..i didnt drive more that 45kmph on the entire search..another thing was during the entire 100 km search it was raining..it was kind of difficult for me..i was wearin only my tshirt..completely drenched after the climb..mud all over our jean...but we were enjoyin ever bit of it..some how problem of petrol was solved..we reached home!!!..
